Honey

Our verse this week for our school is Proverbs 16:24 "Kind words are like honey - sweet to the soul and healthy to the body." We have talked at great length about what kind of words are like honey and what kind of words are like garbage. It has been fun to watch the concept metamorphosis within the kid's minds.

At first it was simple like, "I know what words are honey. I love you. Thank you. I am happy. ...etc.." Which are all well and grand but still very self-centered. Then the phrases turned to: "I like my brother. You are a good Daddy. You are a good drawer. Thank you for helping me. Please." Great! We are expressing ourselves to others within the spirit of the verse.

And then today at Costco, a woman spilled her drink all over the floor and partly her full cart and only had one napkin to try to wipe up this huge mess of ice and sticky ice tea. She couldn't leave her cart so I instructed Josiah to get more napkins and give them to her. Which he did and she said thank you and we went on our way. Two parking lot aisles later Josiah exclaims, "Hey Mom! That was like honey. What happened over there was like honey!! I got her napkins and she said thank you." The kids were beaming with the connection they made of a real event and the Bible verse. It was so neat to see their little smiley faces. The incident began a further discussion that not only are words like honey but so are some deeds of goodness.

Thanks Lord for another teachable lesson for all of us.

Inner Turnings

So I am sitting her late at night stressing about my day tomorrow because I have so many fires burning it is crazy. I hate over-scheduling but there are days that are out of your hands. Tomorrow is such a day for me. I think once we get started it will be okay. It is just hard for my scattered brain to get everything organized.

First we have enrollment for our homeschool co-op which should be simple enough as long as my brother gets there in time and watches the kids while I go sign up for classes. If he is late, it could be disastrous. I guess this will be a good testing ground for both of us.

Next we have opening chapel for the elementary kids and I am in charge of teaching the lesson for the day which I absolutely LOVE!! During chapel time, two groups from my Comedy/Drama class will be performing their final project which are skits that will coincide with the lesson for the day. This is the first time that they will have an audience, props and memorized lines. I am a little like a Mama Hen....wanting to protect anyone from failing miserably.

Then I get a small break for 1st period and get to pray with the prayer group. (One of my favorite parts of Groups.) Second period I am teaching the Comedy/Drama class and getting the next two groups ready to do their skit in two weeks and the rest will be making cards for a fellow thespian who just had surgery.

Lunch

Third period I get to relax, pray and get encouraged by the other moms since it is my off week from the Kindergarten class. And now that I have everything written out I am feeling much better. Especially since the day will end with a BBQ with some friends and I only have to bring a side dish! Wo-ho! Did I mention that Dustin went to go see the midnight showing of Wolverine? I know, he's crazy. :)

Launching Out

I have always wanted to keep a blog and thoroughly enjoy keeping up with my friend's blog sites so I figured why not? It will give me a written place to put all the wonderful things God shows me through my husband and through my children.

I choose the name Proverbs Lady in Training because I identify so little with the woman in Proverbs 31 and yet I want to be like her so badly. Thanks be to God for the continuation of His work and the hope of His completion in our hearts.

I am a first generation Christian so I have a lot to learn! I am hoping that in the end my post will record a journey of a regular gal walking on a narrow road of faith, love, and hope.
